Welcome to week 2 of NaNoWriMo! The adrenaline of the beginning is starting to wear off and I'm almost out of Halloween candy!! AHHHHH!!!
Week 2 is notoriously difficult, but the same rules apply as week 1: Just keep writing.
Me? I'm behind. I was hoping to get ahead during week 1 so that I could come into week 2 with some momentum, especially since I'll be traveling at the end of this week, but it is what it is. There is still plenty of time to catch up, and I have seen first hand how people can come from behind and writ thousands of words in a day.
My story is starting to take shape. I'm getting a sense of the characters and the setting, and figuring out all the relationships. I don't know where they will end up, but I am just looking at the road right in front of me. My main character has a friend that she writes letters to, and whenever I get stuck in a scene, I have her write another letter, or have her get a response. It's been fun to explore that relationship and a useful tool to help get through the writer's block. Who knows if I will end up using all these letters, but at least they are helpful in getting insights into both characters.
Today is the presidential election in the United States. That means the kids are home from school and I am tempted to turn on the news every five minutes. Still, I will keep writing and remember that this is how we make a difference, little by little, word by word.
